How to Fix Blurry Instagram Reels: A Quality Guide
Tired of your high-quality videos looking blurry when uploaded to Instagram? Here is how to fix it.
How to Fix Blurry Instagram Reels: A Quality Guide
You shot a beautiful video in 4K on your new phone, edited it perfectly, and uploaded it to Instagram. But when you view it on your profile, it looks blurry and pixelated. Why does this happen, and how can you fix it?
The Problem: Instagram Compression
Instagram processes petabytes of data daily. To save server space and reduce loading times for users on slow connections, Instagram aggressively compresses video files. If you upload a file that is too large (like a high-bitrate 4K video), Instagram's compression algorithm will often ruin it.
The Fixes
1. Enable "High-Quality Uploads"
This is the most common mistake.
- Open Instagram settings.
- Go to Account > Data Usage.
- Toggle on High-Quality Uploads. (If you don't do this, Instagram defaults to lower quality on cellular networks).
2. Export in 1080p, Not 4K
While 4K sounds better, Instagram caps Reels at 1080p. If you upload a 4K video, Instagram forces a downscale, which often introduces artifacting. Export your video from your editor natively at 1080x1920.
3. Check the Bitrate
Keep your video bitrate between 10 Mbps and 15 Mbps. Anything higher is wasted and triggers heavy compression.
Verify with CoraClip
If you want to see exactly how much Instagram compressed your video, use CoraClip to download your published Reel. Compare the downloaded file size and quality against your original export to see the exact difference.
